ELBLĄG AND SURROUNDINGS

Long ago, in the times when the only way to the city of Elbląg was through the Elbląg Gate, there lived a humble baker in Elbląg.
One day, the Teutonic Knights were seen charging towards the city, and great chaos ensued.
The baker, upon hearing the commotion, hastily ran out of his bakery and saw the approaching invasion. Amidst all this chaos, no one thought of closing the gate.
The baker quickly found the rope holding the gate and repeatedly struck it with a shovel until it finally gave way and the gate fell.
And so, Piekarczyk saved the city of Elbląg from the Teutonic Knights' invasion, as the fortress was impregnable due to the walls surrounding the city.
To this day, a figurine of Piekarczyk leaning on a shovel stands next to the gate.
It is said that whoever pulls his nose will have good luck. Of course, Our Piekarczyk has an unbelievably clean nose.
